Dedicated to teaching, understanding diseases, discovering drugs, and improving the community’s health care
The Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics engages in teaching disciplines of basic pharmacology and therapeutics and has its research activity, which is focused on many aspects of basic pharmacology and pharmacokinetics. Members of the department teach and mentor both undergraduate and postgraduate students at College of Pharmacy and other Colleges of Kuwait University. The department has been adding to its expertise by attracting new academic members to its staff which currently stands at 10.
The research carried out by departmental staff is in the:

- Diabetes.
- GIT diseases.
- cardiovascular diseases.
- infectious diseases.
- inflammation and its mediators.
- respiratory diseases.
- cancer, toxicology
- molecular pharmacology.
- population pharmacokinetic modeling.
- pharmacokinetics.
- therapeutic drug monitoring.
In addition, the department plays an important role in community health through its administration of the Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Center (TDM). This service is offered in all Ministry of Health hospitals and involves the analysis of specific medications in patients' blood. This service aims to enhance therapeutic efficacy while significantly minimizing the potential for drug toxicity.
