The College of Pharmacy Overview:
The College of Pharmacy was established in February 1996 by an Amiri Decree. The College offers the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Program, which is a professional program that prepares students for the pharmacy profession and practice. It is designed to ensure that students acquire the essential pharmaceutical sciences, and the required skills to offer the advanced pharmaceutical services after graduation. The program aims to prepare pharmacists capable of offering patient-centered healthcare in cooperation with their colleagues from the other healthcare providers. It also aims to develop students self- learning skills and the ability to use evidence-based approach to support decision-making in selecting the optimal treatment options. The program ensures that graduates are trained to be highly responsible health care practitioners with high ethical standards and professionalism.
Careers Opportunities:
Graduates of the PharmD program can work in regulatory authorities, research institutions, medical stores, drug inspection departments and pharmaceutical factories. They can also work in pharmacies in polyclinics, private pharmacies, and pharmacies in public and private hospitals with medical teams to provide advice and counseling to the patients.
Duration of the program:
The duration of the program for high school graduates is 7 years. The first year starts with the general courses, and from the second year to the seventh year, students study specialized courses in different areas of pharmaceutical sciences. After successfully completing the fourth year of the program, students will be awarded a Bachelor's degree in Medicinal Sciences.
High Graduate Studies:
The College of Pharmacy at Kuwait University offers a Master's of Science Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, which aims to provide students with advanced knowledge and research skills in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.
Graduates of the PharmD program are eligible to apply for postgraduate programs such as Master's and PhD in various pharmaceutical specialties. The PharmD degree also opens the opportunity for graduates to pursue a pharmaceutical fellowship to enhance their clinical competence.
