Entry-To-Practice PharmD Program

The College of Pharmacy has worked continuously to update its curriculum to keep up with developments in the pharmacy profession and enhance the role of pharmacists in direct patient care. As part of this effort, the College of Pharmacy transitioned from the Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) to the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program to meet the needs of the profession and prepare skilled pharmacists. The first group of students joined the program in September of the academic year 2020-2021. This distinguished program is developed in accordance with the latest global educational standards, emphasizing competency-based learning and active learning methodologies.

 

Program Structure:

The Ep-PharmD program is a professional, seven-year program in which students complete a total of 222 credit hours.

The program consists of one pre-professional year, covering English, basic sciences, and elective courses. This is followed by five professional years devoted to pharmaceutical and basic clinical sciences. The seventh and final year consists of advanced clinical placements in hospitals and polyclinics across Kuwait. Additionally, students are required to complete a research project as part of the graduation requirements, which usually extends over two semesters.

Each academic year is divided into two semesters, with each semester lasting a minimum of 15 weeks, excluding the final exam period. The program does not offer a summer semester and conducted in English.

 

Key Competencies of Ep-PharmD Graduates:

Graduates of this program acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills that enable them to play an active role within the healthcare team that includes medical diagnoses, the ability to select appropriate medications and dosages tailored to each patient’s condition, and the capacity to identify suitable alternative therapies when necessary.

Moreover, they possess effective communication skills to interact with patients and other healthcare providers.

Graduates are qualified to practice pharmacy in all its forms and fields, that includes working in public and private hospital pharmacies, as well as in pharmaceutical manufacturing and academic and scientific research centers specializing in pharmaceutical sciences.


 

 

Admission Requirements:

 

Students are admitted into the Ep-PharmD program in the first semester of the academic year, and the following requirements must be met:

  1. High school students who hold secondary school certificate (Science major), or its equivalent, with a minimum percentage of 80% in the high school marks. 

  2. Priority of admission will be given to applicants who have the highest equivalent Grade Point Average of the secondary school percentage, and the results of aptitude tests as follows:

  • 70% of High School grades

  • 15% English language aptitude test results

  • 15% Mathematics aptitude test results
